Clip-on frames are manufactured by machine in standard sizes only and are considerably cheaper than custom made frames. Whilst with a hand-made frame the art print or poster is fixed flat to the base, it is only loosely inserted into a clip-on frame. On the one hand the clip-on frame has the advantage that the picture can be easily changed as often as you like but on the other hand the moisture content of the air must be taken into account as this might cause the print behind the plexiglass to ripple. Thus for expensive prints or serigraphs we would advise against clip-on frames. If the most important criterion for you is a good price or you would like to have the option of using the frame for other pictures then clip-on frames would be the better solution.
